Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

SLR McLaren

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is more of a hypercar than supercar. Produced between 2003 - 2010, the SLR McLaren was initially inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR racecar from the 1950's. Although it was inspired by this, however, it looks nothing like it. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren features a hand-built supercharged 5.5-litre V8 engine that produces 617 bhp and 580 lb/ft of torque, enabling the car to make the world spin backwards and record a 0 - 60 time of 3.4 seconds and cover the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds. That's incredible, given that the SLR McLaren weighs over 2 tonnes. In 2006 a newer, higher performance version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was released called the 722 Edition. It developed 640 bhp and a rather tasty 600 lb/ft of torque. In 2007 Mercedes-Benz also launched a roadster version to the SLR McLaren, a car that's proved popular with celebrities and footballers. In 2011, right before the SLR was discontinued, a special edition was launched by McLaren limited to 25 models. This included newer bodywork, rims and a better steering rack for feedback.
